‘Tough one’: Colin Munro on Rachin Ravindra’s T20 World Cup prospects | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Colin Munro, the New Zealand and Desert Vipers cricketer, weighed in on the T20 World Cup prospects for Kiwi youngster Rachin Ravindra and praised the impact of Pakistani cricketer Azam Khan during a pre-match press conference ahead of Desert Vipers’ clash against Dubai Capitals.
Munro expressed his view that Ravindra’s chances of making it to the playing XI for the upcoming T20 World Cup could be hindered by the presence of experienced stars like Glenn Phillips, Mitchell Santner, and Michael Bracewell.
“Tough one. Rachin has not played a lot of T20Is for the Kiwis. You got Michael Bracewell who along with Mitchell Santner is the top one and two spin bowling all-rounder. The wickets in the Caribbean are also going to spin. You also got Glenn Phillips, another spin-bowling all-rounder. So, not too sure about him being in playing XI. Time will tell,” Munro remarked.
He also lauded Azam Khan’s contribution to Desert Vipers, especially noting his record-breaking fastest ILT20 fifty. Munro confirmed Azam’s departure for Pakistan and highlighted the need for other batters to step up in his absence.
“Azam has been great for us in this short period of time. We knew what we were getting when Azam came. But he is going back to Pakistan, not playing the next game. It is now time for other batters who have not stepped up to step up, myself included,” Munro remarked.
Desert Vipers currently occupy the fifth spot in the ILT20 standings with six points from three wins in eight games. Munro acknowledged the team’s need to improve their form, especially after a recent defeat against MI Emirates.
“Our destiny is in our hands, if we score here, nobody’s going to remember the previous games,” Munro emphasized, highlighting the team’s determination to perform well and secure a spot in the playoffs.
Moreover, the Desert Vipers’ commitment to sustainability initiatives, aimed at reducing carbon emissions and fostering a cleaner environment, remains a core aspect of the team’s ethos.
